Liquid Cooling
Complete Product Offering for Cooling Liquid Loop Systems
ATS offers a comprehensive range of liquid cooling solutions, including chillers, flow meters, leak detectors, heat exchangers and cold plates.
Standard Cold Plates
When air cooling is inadequate, cold plates are a proven way to implement localized cooling of power electronics. Cold plates transfer heat from hot devices, e.g. power semiconductors, into a liquid that flows to a remote heat exchanger. ATS liquid cold plates provide more than 30% improvement in thermal performance compared to commercially available cold plates. They are compatible with industry accepted coolants and leak tested at 100 psi. Lightweight and providing a uniform cold plate surface temperature, they’re the right choice for cooling high-powered electronics, IGBT modules, lasers, wind turbines, motor devices, automotive components, medical equipment.
DIY Cold Plates
DIY, Do It Yourself cold plates provides the same thermal performance as ATS standard cold plates. Hole can be drilled into DIY plates to create a mounting pattern that matches the specific connection points of the device being cooled, such as an IGBT, MOSFET, or other power electronic device. Each DIY cold plate includes an etched “no drill zone” as a visual safety guide. Once a mounting pattern is approved, ATS can manufacture the custom cold plates for prototypes or production.
Tubed Cold Plates
Use of tubed cold plates provides a lower cost component cooling where heat loads are low to moderate, but air cooling is insufficient. Press fit copper tubes provide superior heat transfer with an aluminum base plate. No epoxies or other interface materials that can act as thermal insulators are added. Manufactured in the US, tubed cold plates are compatible with all industry-accepted coolants. They can handle fluid pressure up to 200 psi. ATS tubed cold plates are provided with rugged, 3/8 inch push-to-connect tube fittings for tight connection with inlet and outlet tubing.
Heat Exchangers
ATS tube-to-fin, liquid-to-air heat exchangers are made with the industry’s highest density of cooling fins. This maximizes heat transfer from liquid to air, and allows the liquid to be cooled to lower temperatures than other heat exchangers on the market. ATS heat exchanger fins and tubes are made of copper and stainless steel. They can be used with a wide variety of coolants, including water, dielectric fluids and custom designed heat transfer fluids. The copper tube diameters are 0.375 and 0.5 inches. Lengths are available from 5.8 to 21.9 inches, and widths of 5.8 to 14 inches. Height range from 1.8 to 2.6 inches. Fans can be added to boost the performance of all seven heat exchanger sizes.
Chillers (TEC)
The TEChill family of thermoelectric chillers and heaters applies thermoelectric technology (TEC, Peltier) for precisely controlling fluid temperatures in liquid cooling systems. Their many advantages over vapor compression refrigerators include no moving parts, and higher durability. They do not require their own refrigerant, which makes them more environmentally friendly. With a cooling capacity of 1.4-1.8kW for the TEChill-1400A and 3-4kW for the TEChill-3500A, TEChill is one of the most powerful TEC systems available. It quickly brings coolant temperatures up or down to the requirements of the host liquid cooling system. Both the 1400A and 3500A have a 2 L water tank capacity, and a cooling mode range of 5°C to 60°C (41°F to 140°F). Their heating mode limit is 70°C (158°F). Each complete unit weights 40 KG (88.2 LBS).
Chillers (Recirculating)
To increase the effectiveness recirculating chillers condition a coolant before it returns to a cold plate or loop. The ATS-CHILL V series of re-circulating vapor compression chillers offers precise, continuously modulated coolant temperature regulated by PID controllers. All ATS chillers in this series are air cooled, eliminating costly, vulnerable water cooling circuits. Recirculating models are available with Qmax 150W, 300W and 600W cooling capacity. Depending on model, these can chill cooling fluids between 0-40°C. All chillers include front LED display panels for easy control of water level, pressure and temperature. Built-in safety features offer protection against over pressure and compressor overload, and shuts the chiller down automatically if ventilation if compromised. These chillers are ideal for laboratory applications, laser cooling, micro molding and other industrial applications.
Chillers (Immersion)
The ATS-Chill iM chiller series provide immersion-based, precise control of the fluid in a bath or tank. The ATS-Chill iM201, ATS-Chill iM202 and ATS-Chill iM402 effectively remove fluid heat with a high degree of flexibility and efficiency. The evaporator, on one end of a 1.6m flexible hose is simply submerged into the fluid tank for heat extraction by the chiller’s self-contained vapor compression system. The iM202 chiller can bring fluid temperature to -20°C or lower. Using the ATS-CHILL iM chillers, fluid temps can be brought to 30°C. Cooling capacity is Qmax 800W at 0°C, and 400W at -20°C. Temperature stability is +/- 0.5°C.
Flow Meters
The Flow Meter series is a versatile digital flow meter used for measuring the volumetric flow rate of water (only) in a pipe. A range of flow meters is available to meet application needs. Each meter is compact in size, cost effective, and provides accuracy unmatched in the industry. In addition to instantaneous reading of the water flow rate, they can calculate the accumulated volume of the flow during an interval. The units automatically turn on when there is flow rate and shuts off when there is no flow. Depending on meter choice, these devices can monitor water flow rate in a pipe from 0.4 to 100.0 liters/min up to 99,999 liters, and water temperature up to 80°C. Features include LED displays, low battery alert. Data remains saved after powering down. Male connectors available for 1/4, 1/2 and 3/8 inch diameters.
Leak Detectors
Leak detectors from ATS are Automatic Shut Off Valves for safer operation in liquid cooling operations. These electronic devices detect water (only) leaks from liquid cooling piping systems. When the system detects a leak, it automatically shuts off a valve in the piping, preventing any further flow of water. The detector sounds an alarm to indicate the presence of a leak and the resultant shut flow shut off. For water-based systems that include filtration, the valves provide an audible, end-of-filter life alert. The models come standard with plastic valves. Brass valves are available for higher water pressures, up to 8 Bar (116 psi). ATS leak detectors are suitable for any water flow application, including coolers, cold plate loops, dispensers and filtration systems.
