Wind tunnel controllers and accessories are available for testing automation and heat dissipation simulations. Closed Loop Wind Tunnels ATS research quality, closed loop wind tunnels allow for heat sinks, PCBs, card racks and components to be accurately tested at elevated temperatures. They provide a wide range of airflow conditions with easy set up and precise control of air speed and temperature.
CLWT-067-PCIe™ Closed Loop Wind Tunnel The CLWT-067-PCIe ™, is a unique closed loop wind tunnel for thermal characterization of components, boards and heat sinks specifically for full and half size PCIe cards. The unit is made of Aluminum, sheet metal and LEXAN™ and produces flows up to 1400 ft/min (7 m/s). With customization, it can generate flows up to 50 m/s (10,000 ft/min) using orifice plates (available optionally). The clear Lexan test section has been designed to fit PCIe riser cards and add-in cards. It lets the user view the test specimen and allows for flow visualization. By recirculating internal air, the system quickly warm the air up to 85°. The complete wind tunnel can sit on a lab bench and uses standard AC power. CLWT-067™ Closed Loop Wind Tunnel The CLWT-067 wind tunnel produces airflows up to 7 m/s (1,378 ft/min). With customization, it can generate flows up to 50 m/s (10,000 ft/min) using orifice plates (available optionally). The clear Lexan test section lets the user view the test specimen and allows for flow visualization. By recirculating internal air, the system quickly warm the air up to 85°, with up to 7 m/s airflow. Optional plates can raise airflow to 50 m/s. CLWT-115™ Low Turbulence, Closed Loop Wind Tunnel The CLWT-115™ closed loop wind tunnel provides a convenient, accurate system for thermally characterizing PCBs and individual components at elevated temperatures from ambient to 85°. The complete instrument fits most lab benches. It is powered from the included ATS CLWTC-1000™ controller. The system provides high quality airflow with very low turbulence intensity. It has ports for up to six sensors to characterize PCBs and individual components. Top door access facilitates changing test specimens. CLWT-100™ Free Standing Wind Tunnel The CLWT-100 wind tunnel can characterize airflow and measure thermal resistance of components, heat sinks, PCBs and units inside its cubic foot-size test section. The closed loop design is capable of delivering airflows from 0 to 5 m/s and producing temperatures from -10°C to 85°C. The CLWT-100 has 24 ports in its test section’s front and sides for thermocouples, Pitot tubes and other sensors. The wind tunnel provides uniform and homogenous airflow, at steady temperature. It can be used to test racks and multiple PCBs. Its overall size is (L x W x H): 198 x 114 x 285 cm (78 x 45 x 11 in).
Open Loop Wind Tunnels ATS offers a comprehensive selection of research quality, open loop wind tunnels. These highly accurate instruments are an ideal for thermal characterization studies on components, circuit boards and cooling devices such as heat sinks, heat exchangers and cold plates. This series includes free standing and benchtop models.
CWT-108™ Open Loop Wind Tunnel The CWT-108 wind tunnel characterizes airflow and measures thermal resistance on multiple PCBs in its 2 ft x 2 ft x 8 in test section. Multiple heat sinks can be tested side by side to determine thermal performance in an installed environment. The CWT-108™ produces uniform airflows of up to 5.5 m/s (1100 ft/min). Air is drawn into the tunnel with up to five variable DC fans mounted at the exhaust section of the tunnel. It includes 18 sensor ports in front and on the sides of the test section for the insertion of a variety of probes. Overall dimensions are (L x W x D): 195 x 101 x 83 cm (77 x 40 x 33 in).
CWT-107™ Open Loop Wind Tunnel The CWT-107 open loop wind tunnel can produce uniform and homogeneous flow, up to 5.5 m/s (1100 ft/min) within its 24 x 24 X 7 in test section. There are 18 sensor ports in the front and on the sides of the test section for inserting thermocouples, Pitot tubes, and velocity measuring sensors. Each CWT-107 fan tray is equipped with individually controlled, 24 volt-DC fans to generate airflow, and is fully compatible with the ATS WTC-100™ Wind Tunnel Controller that helps automate thermal characterization. CWT-106™ Open Loop Wind Tunnel The CWT-106 wind tunnel is designed for testing multiple PCBs and components. It is used for airflow characterization and visualization, measuring thermal resistance and generating P-Q curves. The 24 x 24 x 6 in test section accommodates multiple PCBs as seen in a typical ATCA chassis. The CWT-106 produces uniform airflows of up to 6 m/s (1200 ft/min). Air is drawn into the tunnel with up to five variable DC fans mounted at the exhaust section of the tunnel. The wind tunnel has ports on its front and sides of the test section for 18 probes. Overall dimensions are (L x W x D): 195 x 101 x 84 cm (77 x 40 x 33 in).
CWT-100™ Open Loop Wind Tunnel The CWT-100 wind tunnel is designed for PCB and component level testing. It can characterize different heat sink sizes for natural and forced convection cooling. Two heat sinks can be tested side by side to determine thermal performance in the same environment. Actual or simulated PCBs can be tested for airflow distribution and pressure drop characterization. Air velocity in the 24 x 16 x 3.2 in test section can be varied from 0.5 to 10 m/s (100 to 2000 ft/min). The CWT-100 has 18 sensor ports on the front and sides of the test section. Overall dimensions are (L x W x D): 197 x 81 x 68 cm (77 x 32 x 27 in).
BWT-104™ Open Loop Wind Tunnel The BWT-104 bench top wind tunnel is used for thermally characterizing components, circuit boards and cooling devices such as heat sinks and exchangers, and cold plates. It provides homogeneous airflow, up to 4 m/s (800 ft/min) within its 20 x 17 x 4 in test section. 18 ports accommodate probes such as thermocouples, Pitot tubes, and temperature and velocity sensors. Plexiglas panels provide a clear view for flow visualization. The BWT-104 can be used with ATS’ WTC-100trade; controller for autonomous testing attendance. BWT-100™Portable Wind Tunnel The BWT-100 small benchtop portable wind tunnel thermally characterizes components, boards and heat sinks. Made from Plexiglas, it produces flows up to 2 m/s (400 ft/min). The unit can be placed horizontally or vertically for direction-sensitive cooling systems. The 12 x 10 x 1 in test section holds a removable test plate for mounting of test specimens. Four fans can be individually controlled for generating airflow. Instrument ports on the front panel of the unit are for temperature, velocity and pressure sensors. Overall dimensions are (L x W x D): 58 x 30.4 x 18.4 cm (22.8 x 12 x 7.2 in).
CWT-PCB™ Open Loop Wind Tunnel The CWT-PCB is a fully controllable wind tunnel for thermal and airflow testing of up to 6 PCBs with 13 mm (0.5 in) card-to-card spacing, or 3 PCBs with 25 mm (1 in) spacing in its 24 x 18.5 x 3 in test section. It has a 2-D converging nozzle with a multi-point measurement area for sensor placement upstream of the test section. Clear polycarbonate panels allow smoke flow visualization The wind tunnel can thermally characterize components, PCBs and cold plates. An integral stand supports attached devices. Wind Tunnel Controllers and Accessories ATS wind tunnel controllers allow users to control the airflow and temperature automatically through the test chamber. Component simulators replicate a wide range of heat dissipation conditions.
WTC-100™ Wind Tunnel Controller The WTC-100 controller helps automate the thermal characterization of heat sinks, boards and components in a wind tunnel, or card rack testing with different fan tray configurations. Two independent sensors determine air temperature and velocity of airflow in the test chamber. The flow range, step increment and the dwell time are set from the stageCONTROL™ application software in a USB-attached PCB. Flow range is 0.2 to 50 m/s (40 to 10,000 ft/min). Flow uniformity is +/- 1%. Temperature range is -10 to 120°, with accuracy of +/- 1°.
CLWTC-1000™ Wind Tunnel Controller Recommended for use with ATS CLWT-067™ and CLWT-115™ closed loop wind tunnels, the CLWTC-1000 operates through a Windows PC (not included) to manage and measure air speed and air temperature, and obtain continuous data on devices under test. The CLWTC-1000 controller features easy to use StageCONTROL 1000™ software that provides the PC with a functioning Data Center for viewing information and monitoring events. A range of velocities at different temperatures can be set, allowing the wind tunnel to run automatically. Manual temperature controls are also provided.
HP-97™ Component Simulator The HP-97 from ATS is a high-power component simulator used for replicating the heat dissipation conditions of devices. It features a 32 x 32 mm aluminum block and a cartridge heater embedded within a tough, high temperature DELRIN® housing and mounted to an FR4 plate. Typical applications include heat sink characterization and side-by-side heat sink comparisons. Heat sinks are mounted to the component simulators via double-sided adhesive thermal tape or custom attachment methods. The HP-97 Component Simulator has a temperature range of ambient to 110°.
